Valspar chips in to save Florida PGA event

Valspar made a splashy announcement Friday that it would be the title sponsor of the Tampa Bay area's professional golf tournament.

The global Minneapolis-based paint and coatings company said the four-year commitment will start with an event March 13-16, 2014, at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Fla.

The tournament did not have a title sponsor last year and was in the rough – questions were swirling about whether it could continue in 2014 without one, the Associated Press reported.

The event will be the third of four straight tournament weeks in Florida, FOX News noted.

Valspar decided the tournament sponsorship was worth the investment to reach a golf-loving audience.

The tournament "will provide a unique platform to connect our brand with the PGA TOUR, which consistently produces some of the most exciting and memorable golf tournaments in the world,” Gary Hendrickson, Valspar’s Chairman and CEO, said in a press release.

Valspar is one of the largest global coatings manufacturers in the world, With more than 9,500 employees in over 25 countries.
