The city of Sioux Falls is anticipating hundreds or thousands of people to attend services for former U.S. Senator and one-time presidential hopeful George McGovern, the Associated Press reports.
The South Dakota legend passed away Sunday at the age of 90.
Mourners paused before a flag-draped coffin at a visitation Thursday. Vice President Joe Biden is expected to attend a funeral service for McGovern Friday, according to the news service.
The Argus Leader says Biden won his first term as a Delaware senator in 1972, the same year McGovern lost his bid for president to Richard Nixon. The two served together for eight years before McGovern losing his re-election bid in 1980.
