Video: Blanket-toting fans race for a good spot for Music in Plymouth

We are dubbing it the Running of the Blankets.

It was the Running of the Blankets in Plymouth Wednesday morning.

The city's annual Music in Plymouth event starts at 5:30 p.m. that evening. But people lined up super early to try and get the best spot, and were ready to sprint their tails off to beat everyone else to their preferred grassy area.

And thankfully, the City of Plymouth posted video of it on Facebook. The whistle blows at 7 a.m., and people with blankets start running towards the Hilde Performance Center.

People are allowed to save spots with blankets and chairs, but they're not allowed to do so before 7 a.m., according to the city's website. That's why there were people waiting for the go-ahead.

And even though it looks as if space is filling up, city officials said on Facebook there's plenty of room – an will be even if you show up right when the event starts.

Music in Plymouth began in 1972, and has grown into an event that attracts about 15,000 people every year, the website says. This year's entertainment lineup includes The Minnesota Orchestra, The Okee Dokee Brothers and The R Factor, as well as fire dancers and fireworks.
