Video: Duluth boat show features famous water skiing squirrel

The Duluth Boat, Sports, Travel & RV Show kicked off its 50th anniversary earlier in the week. For five days, the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center is featuring plenty of boats, sporting equipment and special guests. One of those being a water skiing squirrel.

The squirrel's name is Twiggy, and he'll be gliding around a pool in the Lake Superior Ballroom through Sunday.

Twiggy was trained to ski by Lou Ann Best of Florida. According to her Facebook page, Best rescued a baby squirrel in 1978. Then as a joke, she helped train it to water ski behind a remote-controlled boat.

Word of the water skiing squirrel spread, and then it wasn't long before she and her furry friend were doing shows across the globe.

Now, Best continues to rescue squirrels, and she teaches them how to ride around on mini water skis, the Duluth News Tribune reports.

She told the paper it takes about a year of training before a squirrel is ready to perform in front of a crowd.

Watch Twiggy in action below.

The boat show wraps up Sunday. It runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
