Two students at Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield got a big surprise at their school's holiday sing-a-long.
Martu Zabinski, a sophomore, and her freshman brother Thomas were called out of the audience Friday, Star Tribune reports. According to the paper, the siblings had no idea why they were asked to stand in front of the crowd until they say a familiar face standing in the corner.
Their older sister, Emma Zabinski, serves in the U.S. Navy as a seaman apprentice, according to The Catholic Spirit. The Star Tribune says she wasn't supposed to come home until New Years. So when the servicewoman got the news she could be back for Christmas, she kept it a secret.
WCCO says Emma reached out to Academy of Holy Angels and made arrangements to surprise her siblings at school. And it was a tear-filled success.
Emma will spend the week with her family, the station reports. Then she'll go back to Norfolk, Virginia where she trains. She's expecting to be deployed in 2016 and might not be back for the holidays next year.
