Video: Toddler reunited with grandma after crash killed parents

FOX 9 has video of the emotional reunion of a grandmother and a toddler, after the boy survived a high-speed crash Friday that killed his parents.

The clip shows 2-year-old Bishop Hooks being embraced by his shaken grandmother Monday night, three days after the boy's parents, Wilbur and Patrice Hooks, of Hopkins, died in the Interstate 694 crash in Fridley. Patrice was 4 1/2 months pregnant, family members say.

Bishop, who had been buckled into a car seat, remarkably survived the crash without injury, state troopers said.

"I'm just happy to be with him – be together with him," grandmother Patricia Jackson said. The boy will now live with his grandmother in her Crystal apartment, family members have said. Immediately after the crash, the boy was cared for by Anoka County Social Services.

Wilbur Hooks, who investigators believe was driving without a license in excess of 100 mph at the time of the crash, had a history of driving violations, including two drunken driving convictions, FOX reported. He was arrested in 2012 for driving after his license was revoked.

"Now we are left with the emptiness of not knowing why he was ever going 120 mph," Patricia Jackson said.

Patrice’s aunt, Brenda Hunter, told the Star Tribune that her niece had worried about her husband's driving.
