Video: We tried Burger King's new Mac n' Cheetos – here's what we think of them

Mac n' Cheetos: They are real, and they will soon be available (or in some cases, are already available) at Burger Kings around the country.

The new treat is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Macaroni and cheese, in cheese-flavored breading, then deep fried. Burger King is rolling them out at select locations Monday. They'll be sold for about eight weeks, or until supplies run out, according to Bloomberg.

But they're already available in at least a few stores, including one in North Minneapolis – which is where we went to buy a few and give them a try Thursday afternoon.

How about other reviews?

People online are kind of obsessed with talking about them. And a lot of people like them.

"Sadly genius" is what the Washington Post called the new item.

And The Verge? "So beautiful I want to cry," they say.

According to the Huffington Post, it'll fulfill your dreams — or nightmares."

"[On] the one hand, they seem like a crime against nature, but on the other, Cheetos and deep-fried macaroni and cheese sounds like an awesome combination," the AVClub writes.

This is anti- the current health trend

Kale chips this is not.

Funny enough, the Mac n' Cheetos seem to go against all the recent food trends – the natural, organic, locally-grown, health-conscious items that have places like Target redoing their grocery section and testing new cafes that aren't as focused on hot dogs and nachos.

But it is playing into another not-as-healthy trend: The snack mix-up. Taco Bell really kicked off the fad with its Doritos Locos Tacos in 2014, which that summer was dubbed one of the most successful products in fast food history by The Atlantic.

The Mac n' Cheetos come with five sticks, totaling about 310 calories. That's comparable to a small order of French fries from BK, and a little less than the 340 calories in a medium french fry at McDonald's.
