Vikings still not sure if Diggs, Newman will be able to play

The Vikings could be without Stefon Diggs and Terence Newman in Detroit.

Stefon Diggs could be watching from the sideline when the Vikings are playing the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

According to KFAN's Dan Barreiro, head coach Mike Zimmer still isn't sure if Diggs and cornerback Terence Newman will be able to go Thursday. Three other players who didn't practice on Tuesday are expected to play, including starting safeties Harrison Smith and Andrew Sendejo, along with nickel corner Captain Munnerlyn.

Diggs (knee) is Minnesota's leading receiver and Newman (neck) is a key piece of the Vikings' third-ranked defense. If Newman can't start, Trae Waynes would likely take over.

"There was a lot of doom and gloom about how terrible we are on defense," Zimmer said Tuesday, defending his team after dominating much of the game against the Arizona Cardinals, "but we are plus 13 or something in turnovers and we're pretty high in every statistical category. Nothing's as good as it seems and nothing's as bad as it seems."

If Diggs doesn't go, the likes of Adam Thielen, Cordarrelle Patterson, Charles Johnson and even rookie Laquon Treadwell would have to step up.

The Vikings and Lions kickoff inside Ford Field Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
