Volunteers join search for missing Hugo man, 75

Volunteers are stepping up to help law enforcement search for Radivoje "Ray" Novakovic, 75, of Hugo who never returned from a Sunday evening walk.

Officers from multiple state and local agencies have spent several hours searching for the missing man with no luck.

FOX 9 says volunteers have organized searches Wednesday through Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. A search Saturday will begin at 10 a.m.

Novakovic and his wife, Olga, left their home on the 13000 block of Europa Trail N. around 7 p.m. Sunday to take their usual walk.

Olga Novakovic told FOX 9 that it's common for her to turn back when she gets tired, which she did Sunday and her husband continued walking along his route--Novakovic usually covers three to four miles a day.

Authorities were notified around 10 p.m. when Novakovic didn't return. He suffers from diabetes, is mildly bipolar and has been known to get disoriented.

No foul play is suspected, but authorities are concerned that Novakovic may have experienced blood-sugar issues.

Novakovic is approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds and has gray and white hair. He was last seen wearing a maroon shirt, khaki pants and a brown hat.

The sheriff’s office is asking residents to check their properties for signs of Novakovic, who may have sought shelter in a shed or garage.

The Washington County Sheriff'a Office received a tip Monday that Novakovic was spotted in the northern White Bear Lake Township area, but the sighting was not confirmed, the Star Tribune reports.
