Walmart stores to surpass number of Targets in Minnesota

With Walmart stores opening in Burnsville, in St. Cloud and in Redwood Falls this coming week, Minnesota for the first time will have more Walmart outlets (including Sam's Clubs) than it does Target stores.

With Walmart stores opening in Burnsville, in St. Cloud and in Redwood Falls this coming week, Minnesota for the first time will have more Walmart outlets (including Sam's Clubs) than it does Target stores, reported the Pioneer Press.

Minnesota-based Target Corp. currently has 26 Super Targets in the state and 49 regular Target stores.

For the time being, Target's sales continue to grow. The corporation reported earlier this month that September sales were up 2.6 percent.

Target stores to hire Geek Squad agents

Minneapolis-based Target is teaming up with Richfield-based Best Buy to test a tech-support program. The Denver Post reports more than two-dozen Target stores in the Denver metro will start featuring Best Buy’s Geek Squad agents this fall. One store in the Twins Cities will also take part in the pilot project. The trained technicians will offer in-store gadget repairs to home-theater delivery and installation.

Walmart will officially replace historic drive-in

The days are numbered for a summertime staple for movie fans in the southern Twin Cities metro. The Cottage Grove City Council voted unanimously Wednesday in favor of Walmart's plan to build a new SuperCenter store, the South Washington County Bulletin reports. It will be built on the site of the Cottage View Drive-In. After nearly five decades in business, the movie theater will permanently close in October.
