It's a fair bet that you won't find a house like this anywhere else in Minnesota.
This fantastical home at 3359 Tyler St., in arty northeast Minneapolis, has been listed for sale by Edina Realty, with the one-bedroom "castle" on the market for $149,900.
The house is filled with the creations of artist/homeowner Lauri Svedberg, with murals and rock mosaics adorning walls, floors and ceilings both inside and out.
WCCO reports that nearly every surface is made up of stone, glass and wood, making it look like it's straight out of a fairy tale.
"This home is a work of art and it is not for everyone," the listing says. "You must have an appreciation for art, Mother Nature, glass, stone and the woods. There is not one square above ground inch of this home that has not been touched by the current owner (artist) hands."
The 1,842 square foot house may only have one bedroom and a 3/4 bath, but it also comes with a spectacular solarium, a landscaped garden and an octagon shaped room "with endless possibilities."
Given the uniqueness of the house, it's no surprise that Svedberg and her home have regularly featured in many numerous publications, as well as on home improvement cable channel HGTV.
The Star Tribune spoke to Svedberg, a retired art and philosophy teacher, who said she had spent 35 years living in and creating her home, but is now moving to Palm Springs where the climate is easier on her arthritis.
She told the newspaper she is looking for a kindred spirit to take on the home.
"The logical part of me says, ‘Whoever buys it has the right to do with it what they want,’ " she said. "[But] my fondest hope is that someone will buy it and keep it alive. If I walked in here in five years and it was all pink and hearts and flowers, I’d probably throw up."
