Feds cite Duluth zoo after farm animals died in flooding

U.S. Department of Agriculture officials on Aug. 28 cited the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth for inadequate shelter for its farm animals, and the zoo has already taken action to satisfy the USDA’s requirements, the Duluth News Tribune reports. Six sheep and four goats died at the zoo in June flooding.

200 turkeys torched in farm fire

Fire departments from four communities battled the blaze in West Concord for four hours early Friday. Nobody was injured, but the Jennie-O turkey company suffered damages to two buildings and an estimated financial loss of $250,000.

Digital River warns of sales slowdown

Shares of e-retailer Digital River got hammered in after-hours trading Tuesday after it said it expects a slowdown in second-quarter sales to continue for the rest of the year. The stock fell $2.58 or 14.5 percent in after-hours trading, to $15.21. Minnetonka-based Digital River, which operates online stores for many software and consumer electronics makers, reported that revenue for the quarter ending June 30 fell 2 percent to $90.8 million.

Authorities seize 146 animals from couple in Bigfork

A man and woman are each facing 34 counts of animal cruelty and mistreatment after police removed dogs, horses, chickens, a goat, rabbits and pheasants from their property in Bigfork Township. Police reportedly found dead deer carcasses, and dogs and horses tied to the ground without adequate shelter or water.
