Minnesota's North Shore is always stunning. But right now, with the recent snowfall covering the ground, it's exceptionally pretty.

Especially when viewed from way up high.

Visit Cook County (the local tourism agency) posted this drone video to YouTube, showing the conditions on Jan. 26. They note that 70 km of trails within the Central Gunflint Ski Trail System "are groomed, covered in fresh snow, and in great shape."

Here's the video:

The Gunflint Trail starts in Grand Marais and winds up to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area - and all 57 miles are paved, Visit Cook County says. It passes through the Superior National Forest.

It was originally a foot path in the 1800s (possibly earlier) used by Ojibwe, as well as surveyors and trappers, this planning document says. It eventually turned into a dirt road, before becoming the paved blacktop it is now.

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon will also be running in this area over the next few days.
