Did you know there's a world record for the highest basketball shot?

Neither did we, but there is one and it has been broken by Australian Derek Herron.

Herron, who's a trick shot artist for How Ridiculous, sunk the basket on just his third attempt from the top of the Mauvoisin Dam in Switzerland.

He found the net from the height of 180m, or 594-feet. Watch it here from about the 2:10 mark, it's seriously cool.

He took the shot at the end of September, but it has taken till now for the record to be verified by Guinness World Records, which has confirmed it on its website.

How Ridiculous broke the highest basketball shot record in 2011 when they hit one from 66.89m (219ft), but it was beaten by American YouTubers Dude Perfect earlier this year, when they shot a 162m (533ft) basket.

"It was a surreal moment nailing it on the third shot. I watched the ball head towards the rim and saw the net move but still had my doubts that it went in until I saw Scott going crazy," Herron told Guinness World Records.

Herron posted this video of all three attempts to show us he wasn't lying about him achieving the feat on his third go (of course, he could have just had hundreds of attempts they didn't bother publishing, but we're inclined to believe him.)
