Last Friday's release of The Hamilton Mixtape has quite a lot for fans of hip-hop and the Broadway show to be excited about, as the album has already rocketed to top the Billboard 200 charts. After taking in $3.3 million at the box office in a single week and setting a new Broadway record in the process, the hits just keep coming as The Roots, Joell Ortiz and Busta Rhymes performed their remix of "My Shot" on NBC's Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
In one of the most elaborate late night performances this year, Roots' MC Black Thought (or "Tariq" if you aren't familiar with his non-network work) brings it from the boardroom to a simulated stage-on-a-stage with Joell, followed by Busta Rhymes, who was sporting a flabbergasting Founding-Father-meets-Flipmode outfit. The Broadway track translates well to the Tonight Show realm, especially with Busta reaching back to the rapidfire staccato delivery we love best from him.
The Hamilton Mixtape is available everywhere now. Tickets to Hamilton on Broadway, not so much.
