In federal court on Tuesday, 53-year-old Danny Heinrich confessed to kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing Jacob Wetterling on Oct. 22, 1989.

U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger, Jacob's mother Patty Wetterling, Jared Scheierl – whom Heinrich also admitted assaulting – and others all addressed the media and answered questions in a news conference that afternoon.

The plea deal and confession came three days after officials in Stearns County confirmed that remains Heinrich led them to in Paynesville late last week are those of Jacob Wetterling.

Heinrich, according to the plea deal, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison, and 5 years to life of supervised release.
