Throw on your finest Hypercolor shirt and wide-leg pants, the '90s are back with a vengeance in the new Jennifer Hudson and Ma$e video "Mr. DJ."
The track, which Babyface seems to have contributed to as well, comes from the forthcoming Adam Sandler Netflix film Sandy Wexler. In it, Hudson plays a singer in the '90s represented by bumbling Los Angeles talent agent Sandy Wexler (Sandler) who falls in love with her.
It's interesting to think how, at one point in the '90s, a movie absolutely had to have a soundtrack in order to connect with audiences. Then, physical media fell by the wayside.
Now that movies have transitioned into a post-streaming world with Sandler's multi-picture Netflix deal, we've come full circle with a complete music video and original single being used to promote the movie's April 14 premiere.
Now that you've had a chance to process time being a flat circle, let's appreciate just how much fun can be had with this track. It hits so many '90s R&B beats, but Hudson's talents keep it above being merely a nostalgia voyage. "Mr. DJ" does a great job exploring the relationship music has in our relationships and major life moments.
