The who

James Comey, who was director of the FBI for more than three years. He was fired by the Trump administration in May.

The what

He will be testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee. The hearing is high-profile and highly anticipated.

The why

Comey as head of the FBI was leading the investigation into possible links between Russia and President Donald Trump's campaign. He was fired on May 9.

Critics, including most Minnesota Democrats and GOP Rep. Erik Paulsen, were very concerned about the timing, suggesting the president could have been obstructing further probing by letting Comey go. Comey reportedly has detailed records of conversations he had with President Trump, which are expected to be discussed at length Thursday.

You can get a sneak peek in this copy of his prepared testimony, released Wednesday. He'll read it today, then answer questions from the senators.

The when

The actual hearing starts at about 9 a.m. central time, though some live streams will kick in earlier.

The where
