This is the terrifying moment a motorcyclist was hurled into the air after colliding with a rubber mat that fell off the back of a boat.
Dashcam footage taken by Linda Leverty and shared on Facebook Monday shows the incident unfold on Interstate 94 eastbound near Woodbury earlier this month.
A rolled-up rubber mat – resembling the "lily pads" used for water leisure – falls off the back of the towed boat and bounces into the path of the motorcyclist following behind.
The biker is unable to avoid it and hits it full-on, which sends the rider flying into the air and onto the interstate, rolling multiple times while the bike hurtles to the other side of the road.
According to her Facebook post, Leverty stopped to help the motorcyclist, who miraculously only escaped with minor injuries.
She said the boat owner never stopped their vehicle or returned to the scene after the incident.
The Minnesota State Patrol told BringMeTheNews the boat owner has not been located.
It was only earlier this month the State Patrol ran a campaign making people aware of the danger of unsecured loads on state highways.
FOX 9 reported 7,000 items are picked up off roads in the Twin Cities metro area alone each year, and nationwide unsecured loads are responsible for 51,000 accidents, 10,000 injuries and 440 deaths a year, a U.S. Government Accountability Office study shows.
