Nine years into his 33-year prison sentence, O.J. Simpson was granted parole Thursday afternoon. 

He reacted to the parole board's announcement with a sigh of relief followed by a "thank you." 

According to ESPN, the board voted unanimously to grant Simpson parole. He served a minimum nine years of his 33-year sentence for armed robbery at a Las Vegas hotel in 2008. 

The former star running back of the Buffalo Bills could be released from prison as early as Oct. 1.
