Water searches end for Lake of the Woods boater missing since October

Officials are hoping to do one more aerial search for a missing boater before Lake of the Woods freezes over.

Keith Ayers, 28, of Baudette, and his two friends – Justin Haugtvedt, 22, and Cody Ostendorf, 24 – were last seen leaving a resort on Lake of the Woods the night of Oct. 2.

There boat was found capsized the following day, and after extensive searches on the lake, the bodies of two of the men were recovered about a week after they went missing.

Officials have used air, ground and water searches to try and find Ayers' body, conducting their final water search earlier this month, Valley News Live reports.

Lake of the Woods County Sheriff Gary Fish told Forum News Service they hope to get in one more aerial search before the lake freezes.

"There's no closure for anybody," Fish told the news service.
