Thought last weekend was hot? This weekend should beat it easily, with parts of Minnesota expected to swelter in 100-degree temperatures.

The National Weather Service has warned that "dangerous, record heat" is expected this weekend, with highs expected to break the 100-mark particularly in the southwest and west-central parts of the state.

The Twin Cities meanwhile is expected to see temperature highs of 99 and 95 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

It's possible that record temperatures could tumble, with the June 10 and 11 temperature records of 99 and 96 in the Twin Cities set in 1956.

The area around Madison, Minnesota could well see the mercury hit 102 degrees.

It's prompting the NWS to issue advice to parents and pet owners, reminding them not to leave small children or their pets in hot cars.

Anyone passing a car and noticing a child left inside is encouraged to take efforts to get them out, and call 911 as soon as possible.

If you're looking for somewhere to cool off over the weekend, St. Paul has announced its outdoor pools will be opening for the season starting on Saturday.

Como Park Regional Pool and the Highland Park Aquatic Center will both be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with both featuring splash pads, lap pools, children's pools, water slides and climbing walls.

Phalen Beach is also opening for the season, with daily hours of 1-7 p.m. for open swimming and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the splash pad.
