Web Catch: English, French soccer fans give stirring rendition of 'La Marseillaise'

Author:

Despite being rivals on the field and throughout their history, there was nothing but respect shown between England and France on Tuesday.

Their national soccer teams met for a friendly match in London, just days after terror attacks in Paris claimed the lives of 129 people.

The 90,000 capacity Wembley Stadium was lit up with the French flag prior to the match, with many English fans turning up in French colors as a show of solidarity.

And after giving a muted performance of their own anthem, "God Save The Queen," the stadium erupted into a rendition of the French national anthem, "La Marseillaise," words for which were put up on big screens inside the stadium, joining the French fans who had made the trip across the sea.

The result was a stirring, defiant cry of friendship between the two nations, which you can watch above.
