The North American Bear Center in Ely confirms Jewel delivered two cubs. Researchers say it's possible she had a third bear cub, but couldn't confirm. Thousands of people from around the world watched a live webcam placed her den.

The series "Planet Earth Live" debuts in 140 countries Sunday. Celebrity black bears Lily, Jewel and their cubs will be among the wildlife to get some worldwide attention. The Duluth News Tribune reports Sunday's episode will air in the U.S. Monday night on the National Geographic Wild channel with the title "24/7 Wild."

Wildlife officials shot and killed a collared yearling black bear Thursday after it went into an Ely-area garage. There were children in the area, according to reports. The bear had been collared in July by Lynn Rogers of the Wildlife Research Institute in Ely, but it wasn’t one of the well-known bears tracked by Rogers and other researchers or followed by the public on Internet webcams.

Officials at the North American Bear Center in Ely say Jewell is agitated and vocalizing--signs she may be ready to give birth. The center is monitoring her with a camera in her den.
