This weekend might bring weather we haven't seen in at least 235 days

The cold, dark winter felt so long.

It's been more than 234 days since Twin Cities residents got to experience what we might get this weekend.

80. Degree. Weather.

The National Weather Service says there's a chance the Minneapolis-St. Paul area reaches a high of 80 degrees this weekend. The forecast shows Saturday would be the most likely.

The last time the Twin Cities hit 80 degrees was back on Sept. 18, 2016, the National Weather Service Twin Cities says.

The earliest we've ever eclipsed 80 was March 17, back in 2012 – but the average date is April 30. So we're actually a little late this year.

Somehow, St. Cloud has already reached 80 degrees this year, doing so on May 5.

Here's a brief look at what to expect this weekend around the state.

Twin Cities

Sunny and warm Saturday, with highs brushing up against 70 degrees. The low will probably be high 40s/low 50s.

Sunday will be about the same, but a little cloudy. See more details here.

Northeast Minnesota

The Duluth area and northeast Minnesota will get highs in the upper 60s, maybe lower 70s, both Saturday and Sunday. It'll be sunny and clear both days, with a slight chance for showers late Sunday or early Monday.

Lows will be around 40. See more details here.

Northwest Minnesota

After a frost advisory during this week, the Red River Valley will warm up a bit.

Saturday should be beautiful, sunny with highs in the low 70s. Sunday maybe a few degrees cooler, but still nice, with a chance for storms and showers later. See more details here.

Southwest Minnesota

You might get 80s down here too. The highs both Saturday and Sunday are in the low 80s – the lows meanwhile are a shade below 60 degrees.

And it should be sunny and pretty clear. No rain until Monday. See details here.

Southeast Minnesota

Lots of sun, though maybe not quite as warm as out west or up in the Twin Cities. Highs are projected in the upper 70s.

Should be sunny both weekend days, with lows in the upper 50s or so. See more details here.
