Wetterling investigators question Paynesville man

A longtime resident of Paynesville, Minnesota, has been questioned recently about the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling some 25 years ago.

The names of Delbert Huber, 83, and his 48-year old son Tim keep popping up in connection with the unsolved abduction of Wetterling, who was 11 when he was taken by a masked man along a road in St. Joseph, Minnesota in 1989.

Stearns County investigators re-interviewed Huber last week about the Wetterling case, as well as several assaults on young boys in nearby Paynesville that took place around the same time, FOX 9 reports.

In interviews with three television news reporters Tuesday, Huber insisted he had nothing to do with Wetterling's disappearance, or the other cases – and neither did his son.

The Hubers are both in prison, serving time for the 2011 murder of Albertville teacher Tim Larson. Delbert Huber told the court during his sentencing hearing that he shot Larson in part because Larson accused the Hubers of being involved in Wetterling's disappearance, according to KARE 11.

Investigators recently decided to take a fresh look at the case after recent news coverage raised questions about whether the Paynesville assaults could be related to Wetterling's abduction, WCCO reports. And they recently questioned Delbert Huber in the Faribault prison, where he is incarcerated.

"They asked me about the Jacob Wetterling deal," Huber told KARE 11. "I never knew the kid until he was missing, and then I seen it on TV."

Huber told WCCO he's angry that tips continue to come into law enforcement about him and his son. He said neighbors have spread rumors for years that the two of them were involved in Wetterling's abduction, and said it amounts to harassment.

The Hubers have a reputation in Paynesville. According to KARE 11, neighbors testified in court that they felt threatened by the two men.

Delbert and Timothy Huber were questioned back in 1989 shortly after the abduction.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner has said investigators are pursuing fresh leads not only on Huber, but on other possible suspects as well, according to WCCO.
