A 10-year-old Crystal boy is still missing, and at a Friday night press conference, top officials with the city’s police department indicated that their search is intensifying.
FOX 9 reports that police issued another plea for the public's help in finding Barway Edwin Collins. Police investigators said they believe the boy is with someone he knows and that he is safe, although they would not comment on why they believe that.
The Star Tribune's story said that the case is likely not a stranger abduction.
The fourth grader was last seen after school on Wednesday afternoon near his apartment building in the 5400 block of Douglas Drive North. Surveillance video from the Cedarwood apartment complex shows Collins walking toward his parents' home before turning around, but why he changed direction or where he was going is unclear.
Now the FBI, Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office have joined Crystal Police in following leads as to Barway's whereabouts. Teams using dogs have searched neighborhoods near his apartment.
Barway Collins is described as 5 feet tall and 80 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black jacket, white t-shirt, black pants and red shoes when he was last seen, and was carrying a red backpack.
“We’re worried about him,” Mike Meehan, deputy chief of the Crystal Police Department, told BringMeTheNews on Thursday. “We thought he’d show up and he hasn’t.”
Anyone with information on the child’s whereabouts is urged to call the Crystal Police Department via Hennepin County Dispatch at 952-258-5321 or dial 911.
