A 19-year-old from White Bear Lake has been sentenced for five years in prison for sexually assaulting a "heavily intoxicated minor" at an air base in Japan.

Ricky Isiah Sherwood was sentenced Friday for sexual assault after pleading guilty on Nov. 14 last year, according to the FBI, with U.S. District Judge Ann D. Montgomery handing down a 60-month sentence.

The incident happened on the evening of Feb. 11, 2014, at the Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, where Sherwood worked part-time and was a dependent of a member of the military.

The FBI said that he videotaped parts of his assault on the 17-year-old girl on his cellphone.

According to Stars and Stripes, Sherwood was 18-years-old at the time of the incident and was a student at Kadena High School.

MPR reports that he and some other male students from the school School took the girl back to Sherwood's home and gave her alcohol.

Sherwood himself is not believed to have been intoxicated, and he assaulted the girl as she lay on his bed with her eyes closed and unable to move, MPR said.

Stars and Stripes said that the incident "shocked Okinawa's tightly knit military community," with the victim taken to the U.S. Naval Hospital at nearby Camp Foster after the incident, saying she had no recollection of events after her second drink.

He was prosecuted under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act, which gives federal courts jurisdiction over felonies committed abroad by certain people employed by or accompanying the U.S. Military.
