C)Bill Rigney was brought in to replace the popular Billy Martin, who led the Twins to the American League West championship. Some fans -- so irritated with owner Calvin Griffith's decision to fire Martin in the first place -- called for a boycott of the Twins. Rigney, like Martin, would also win a divisional title in 1970, but would also be swept in the AL playoffs that year to the Baltimore Orioles, three games to none.
