Wife accused in crash, beating of husband's girlfriend

Investigators say a Lakeville woman is accused of running her husband's girlfriend off the road and then beating her with a bat, KSTP reports.

Beatriz Fernandez, 37, is accused of bashing the woman's car – her husband was a passenger in it – as they were driving on County Road 42 in Burnsville. Fernandez's husband told police that she hit their car three or four more times before it spun out, WCCO reported.

The girlfriend told police she got out of the car and then Fernandez hit her in the head with an aluminum bat, according to a criminal complaint. Witnesses said Fernandez hit the woman two to three times with the bat in “full-out swings,” KSTP reported.

The woman was taken to Fairview Ridges Hospital with fractured skull and abrasions on her knees, feet and hip, the stations reported.

Fernandez fled the scene but investigators said they found her in her car nearby with an open bottle of wine, pill bottles and a notebook with suicidal messages written inside it, the stations reported.

Fernandez has been charged with second-degree assault stemming from the Nov. 12 incident. Fernandez's husband told investigators that the two are still married, but he moved out of their home a month and a half ago.
