A 12-year Winona police veteran is accused of driving while intoxicated when he was off-duty, the Winona Daily News reports.

The newspaper reports the 35-year-old officer was called to city hall to sign some forms, and when he did, a deputy police chief suspected he was drunk. The officer was given a breath test that indicated his blood-alcohol concentration was .22, nearly three times the legal limit in Minnesota, the newspaper reports.

The officer is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
