Wis. man tried to flee police on snowmobile, despite lack of snow

Author:

A Wisconsin man used a snowmobile to escape law enforcement officers – ignoring the troublesome fact that there was no snow on the ground, the Superior Telegram reported.

The man sped off down gravel and blacktop roads as he sought to elude officers, which can be done, although those surfaces will wreck a snowmobile in a hurry.

“I actually asked them to repeat the information” when dispatchers notified officers, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Warden Pat Novesky said in a DNR news release. Novesky told the Telegram he assumed that someone was pranking him.

Novesky helped Oneida County sheriff's deputies and the Three Lakes Police Department track the man. The man was fleeing officers who were investigating a domestic incident in the town of Three Lakes, in northern Wisconsin, officials said.

The man reportedly hit a downed tree but continued and eventually sped down a snowless snowmobile trail, where he ultimately crashed. He fled on foot. Officers found him a semi-trailer and took him into custody.
