Wisconsin dad gets restraining order against daughter's kindergarten bully

A Wisconsin father has taken out a restraining order against his daughter's 5-year-old bully, WISN-TV in Milwaukee reports.

Brian Metzger told the station he took the extreme measure because he believed Prairie Lane Elementary School officials were not doing enough to protect his daughter from a threatening kindergarten classmate.

"She came home and said a student threatened her by saying, 'I want to slit your throat and watch you bleed,'" Metzger told WISN.

A police report said Metzger's daughter had been kicked in the face and pelted with rocks. A Kenosha Unified School District spokeswoman said she couldn't specifically comment about how the situation was being handled, but she told WISN, "There's always two sides to every story."

Metzger said the school had kept his daughter in the same classroom until Wednesday, after he showed up at the school with the restraining order Tuesday night. A hearing on the restraining order is set for next week, WISN reports.

Bullying has become a more high-profile issue in schools nationwide in recent years. The story of one Minnesota mother who took her frustration with school officials to social media last week drew national attention.

Minnesota state lawmakers last month approved a much stronger anti-bullying law that requires districts to track and investigate cases of bullying, and requires schools to offer training to staff in how to prevent bullying.
