What's going to happen with all those deserted Old County Buffet buildings?

A North Carolina-based company has an idea: Turn them (or some) into Golden Corrals.

It's another buffet-style eatery that offers everything from grilled steak to pizza and bourbon street chicken. Golden Corral features a hot buffet, salad bar and desserts – not too different from the chain it seems to be replacing.

There used to be more than 600 Old Country Buffets across the country. And in the last eight years it shut down more than 400 restaurants.

Now there's on only one left in the state – it's in Burnsville.

But Golden Corral has apparently had an eye on Minnesota for a while. According to Minneapolis - St. Paul Business Journal, it's been considering expanding to the Twin Cities for decades. And recently, they've been buying up some former OCB spaces.

The franchise already has a following in Minnesota, even though one doesn't even exist here yet. (The closest are in Wisconsin and Iowa.)

There's a Facebook page that was started in 2013 to bring at least one Golden Corral restaurant to the Twin Cities area, and people have been posting pictures of the old OCB building in Maplewood with signs in the window that read "Golden Corral Coming Soon!"
