An on-duty Apple Valley police officer drove through a red light in his squad car and caused a three-vehicle collision, witnesses said, the Star Tribune reports.

All three drivers went to the hospital with noncritical injuries, including a 50-year-old woman from Apple Valley and a 17-year-old male from Rosemount, the newspaper reports.

The 57-year-old officer was not on a call and did not have his lights or siren on at the time of the crash, shortly after noon Wednesday, the newspaper reports.

The Minnesota Highway Patrol is investigating to avoid a conflict of interest, Apple Valley police say.
