Woman arrested for drunk driving after hit-and-run injures boy

A woman is being held at the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of DWI after the car she was driving allegedly hit a boy on a bike in St. Paul Tuesday night and attempted to flee the scene.

FOX 9 reports 7-year-old Xavier Battle is recovering at Gillette Children's Hospital. Xavier received 40 stitches in his head and suffered broken bones in his back as a result of the hit-and-run crash. He's scheduled to undergo an MRI Wednesday to determine if there are any more injuries, according to the boy's mother.

St. Paul police say Xavier was riding his bike near the intersection of Payne Avenue and Bedford Street around 8 p.m. when he was struck.

The driver allegedly sped off, but was later stopped by an officer nearby. KSTP reports a 39-year-old St. Paul woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of drunk driving.
