Woman, child found dead in WI home after report of smoke; 1 arrested

The bodies of a 30-year-old woman and 10-year-old girl were found in a western Wisconsin home Wednesday afternoon, and a suspect is in custody in Texas, the New Richmond News reports.

Authorities responded to a report of smoke at a residence on Hallewood Boulevard, New Richmond Police said.

The bodies of the adult female and child were discovered by first responders at that time, KARE 11 reports.

The victims have not been identified, and a cause of death hasn't been determined yet.

FOX 9 reports a male suspect was arrested in Texas Thursday morning.

Charges have not been filed as of 1 p.m. Thursday.

"This is absolutely a bad day," New Richmond Mayor Fred Horne said Thursday morning, according to the New Richmond News.
