Woman dies after being hit by car on New Year's Eve; suspect drives off

A woman died in a New Year's Eve hit-and-run.

The Minneapolis Police Department said the woman was trying to cross Lyndale Ave. N., on the 3900 block, to get into a waiting taxi cab around 9:23 p.m.

While in the middle of the street, a "light blue vehicle" hit the woman.

The driver did not stop, and was seen turning westbound on to 39th Ave. N., police said.

The woman was dead when officers arrived; they canvassed the area and spoke with residents and people on foot nearby.

Police are asking anyone with information to help, by calling CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

John Elder with the Minneapolis Police Department told BringMeTheNews they are working on some leads they've gotten through the investigation so far.

The medical examiner will release the identity of the victim. The Minneapolis Police Department's Traffic Unit is investigating.
