Woman dies in early morning crash as driver flees the scene

Police in Minneapolis are looking for a man who crashed his vehicle into a stop light and fled the scene.

It happened at the intersection of Stinson Boulevard Northeast and Ridgeway Parkway at approximately 3:50 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Minneapolis Police Department

When officers arrived, they found an adult female passenger was trapped inside the vehicle.

She was freed from the car and received medical aid until paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead.

Witnesses told police that a male driver had fled on foot before help arrived. Authorities searched the area using K9's but the suspect wasn't found, the release says.

The name of the victim, as well as the exact cause of her death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
