A young woman was seen on fire Thursday afternoon near the Lake Superior College Fire Training Center in Duluth.

Now she's fighting for her life in a local hospital, and authorities are looking for witnesses.

The victim, who's reported to be in her early 20s, was found on fire by a passerby, who put out the flames, rendered first aid, and called the police, KBJR 6 reports.

Few details about what happened have been released, but the station says police are investigating the incident as a crime.

A police news release says the victim was discovered along Highway 23 at the address of the Emergency Response Training Center, a Lake Superior College facility a few miles southwest of the main campus.

The school reports the woman, who has not yet been identified, is neither a student nor a staff member at the college, WDIO says

Police are asking anyone who may have been on the highway in that area during the time of the incident – or anyone with information about the attack – to call the department's Violent Crimes Unit at (218) 730-5050.
