A woman in her 60s was shot to death at a home in Northfield, Minnesota, on Sunday, with an older woman taken into custody and later released by police.
According to a news release from Northfield police, the shooting happened on the 1200 block of Jefferson Road at 7:50 a.m., with the initial report suggesting an intruder had been reported in the home.
But the woman who reported it, said to be in her 70s, was later taken into custody and police say it does not appear the shooting was related to an intruder.
The victim, who has been identified as Lilly Marie Kirckof, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Northfield News, the woman taken into custody has since been released, with police citing a lack of probable cause as the reason for this.
The newspaper says the two woman were the only people inside the home and both are believed to have lived there, though the relationship between the two has not yet been revealed.
Neighbor Ronald Hanson told KSTP that such incidents are uncommon in Northfield, saying: "Since I moved to Northfield in 2010, it's been pretty quiet around here."
