The Associated Press reports a bizarre and dangerous series of events unfolded while a South Dakota woman was being questioned by police about the deaths of two newborns.
The AP says the woman pulled out a gun and pointed it at herself during the interview.
An agent from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations and a Brookings, S.D., police officer struggled with the woman, and the gun went off.
No one was hurt.
The remains of two newborns were found Nov. 2 in a rural shelterbelt near Astoria, S.D.
The woman has not been charged, the AP reports.
