Hiker rescued after fall from 40-foot bluff in La Crosse

Author:

A 22-year-old woman survived a 40- to 50-foot fall from Grandad Bluff in La Crosse, Wis. Wednesday morning.

Police told WXOW that the woman had been hiking in an unauthorized area Wednesday morning when she fell off and then slid down the bluff another 40 to 50 feet. She used her cell phone to call 911 around 7:20 a.m.

After a difficult two-hour rescue where firefighters had to cut down several trees, a technical team was able to load the woman onto a board and used ropes to lower her to an ambulance.

She was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The La Crosse Tribune reports the woman is being fined $303 for trespassing on an unauthorized area of the bluff.
