Woodbury's 'mini Mozart' to perform at State Fair

A gifted five-year-old violinist from Woodbury will perform at the Amateur Talent Contest at the Minnesota State Fair Aug. 31. The fair is now passed its halfway point. Day 7 brings Read and Ride Day, a new ice cream flavor from Kemps and KISS and Motley Crue at the grandstand.

Five-year-old Ignacio “Iggy” Rosado of Woodbury will be competing Aug. 31 in the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Competition semifinals where he will dress up as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and perform two violin pieces. Iggy's mother, Shannon Rosado, tells the Woodbury Bulletin that her son is "profoundly gifted" and has been playing the violin since he was three years old.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together has passed its halfway point. Day 7 is Read and Ride Day, KSTP-TV reports. Fairgoers can get into the fair for $10, seniors' and kids' tickets are discounted to $7 if they bring a public library card.

Judges will announce Kemps newest Minnesota ice cream flavor today. An online vote is underway between two flavors: “Rah! Rah! Rhuberry” and “Mini-sota Donut.” Last year's winner, Land of 10,000 Licks, just hit store shelves last week.

KISS and Mötley Crüe perform a sold-out concert at the grandstand tonight.

Semisonic, Jayhawks to headline "MN Music-On-a-Stick" during State Fair

The Minnesota State Fair is filling Garrison Keillor's traditional grandstand slot with its first all-Minnesota music concert since 1998. "MN Music On-a-Stick" will feature Semisonic, the Jayhawks, Dessa and Jeremy Messersmith on August 31. Keillor will be on an 11-day "Prairie Home Companion" cruise in August.
