A Burnsville man has died after being injured by a machine at a manufacturing plant.
Lakeville police say Mitchell Robert Hauschildt was severely injured by a packaging machine at Genpak Sunday morning. The 28-year-old was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital where he died later that day.
Police say Hauschildt was fatally injured "after coming into contact with a packaging machine." Not much else was revealed about accident.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined Hauschildt died after suffering "multiple blunt force injuries" from an industrial roller, and labeled it an accident.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration and Lakeville Police Department will investigate.
Genpak – which manufactures disposable food containers and plastic utensils – has been cited by OSHA before.
According to the safety administration's website, Genpak's Lakeville location has received three serious violations, all on the same day in 2012. Two violations had to do with the control of hazardous energy, another was for a barrier guard. OSHA says a violation is considered serious when a workplace hazard could result in serious injury or death.
At the company's Columbus, Ohio location, a man was killed in 2012 in a similar accident with a packaging machine.
