Officials at Boise Inc. are working to determine who specifically will be laid off at its International Falls paper mill this fall, the Northland NewsCenter reports.

The Idaho-based company announced earlier this month it will close two of its four paper machines and eliminate nearly 300 jobs -- a third of its workforce -- by Oct. 1.

The Duluth station says eight unions represent the workers who face the possibility of losing their jobs.

Economic pressures have not been kind to the logging and paper industries in Minnesota, but Sappi Fine Paper is investing millions into its Cloquet mill.

The company recently completed a $19 million improvement project to the coated paper making operations.
