Worst winter ever? Minnesota Zoo offers special to escape the weather

Is this the worst winter ever? Well, the Minnesota Zoo is trying to make it a little better.

The zoo is offering a "Worst Winter Ever Special" – all zoo individual admissions between Feb. 26-28 are just $10. That's $8 off a regularly-priced adult admission, according to the zoo's Facebook page.

The zoo is inviting people to escape the winter cold and visit the zoo to enjoy the lush Tropics Trail, native Minnesota wildlife, fish, sharks, exotic birds, marine life and an indoor birds show. The "Worst Winter Ever Special" does not include parking and isn't valid with any other promotion.

While at the zoo, visitors are encouraged to take photos and tweet them to the Minnesota Zoo (@mnzoo) using the hashtag #worstwinterever. The zoo will retweet some of its favorites.

This special comes as another blast of arctic air hits the state that will stick around through the weekend. MPR is reporting the high in the Twin Cities Wednesday as 19 degrees, with a windchill of -22. Thursday will be colder with a high temperature of 0 degrees.

Friday the metro will see a little improvement with a high of 14 degrees and the possibility of some snow. Saturday there is a high of 1 degree and Sunday the high is expected to be 9 degrees.

Here's a glimpse of weather around the state:

– Bemidji: Thursday a high of -4 degrees, Friday a high of 5 degrees.

– Duluth: Thursday a high of 1 degree, Friday a high of 7 degrees and a slight chance of snow.

– Rochester: Thursday a high of -1 and windchill as low as -34, Friday a high of 9 degrees and a 70 percent chance of snow.
