Xcel Energy has submitted paperwork to state regulators to add a trio of wind energy projects to its portfolio, greatly expanding its wind capacity.
MPR reports that the projects would expand Xcel's Midwest wind holdings by a third. Upon completion, they would create enough electricity to power 180,000 homes. The new wind projects would be located near Windom and Austin in Minnesota and near Jamestown in North Dakota.
All three projects are targeted to come online in 2016.
