Xcel Energy has recommended giving a $1.1 million grant to a Cold Spring wind turbine supplier to promote wind power in central Minnesota.

The St Cloud Times reports that the money, from Xcel's Renewable Development Fund, would fund a project that to cover the costs to install small wind turbines on private land in Stearns, Benton and Meeker counties. The turbines would generate energy for farms, businesses and rural homes.

The 120-foot-high wind turbines made by Gone 2 Green of Cold Spring are smaller than the standard 400-foot-high turbines used at wind farms.
