Xcel: Power being restored to 2,500 in east metro

Xcel Energy reported that nearly 2,500 customers in east metro areas including Lake Elmo, Oakdale and Maplewood were without power around lunchtime Thursday, KSTP reported. But electricity was restored relatively quickly to most customers, the company said.

Xcel tweeted this at about 12:30 p.m.:

Xcel has a power outage map.

Separately, on Wednesday night, Xcel crews restored a power outage in St. Louis Park and Minneapolis that affected about 4,250 customers, KARE 11 reported. Power was out from 6:49 p.m. to 8:06 p.m.

Xcel says that outage was caused by a "cable failure."
